How to play 2048 5×5
2048 5×5 is the classic 2048 puzzle played on a 5×5 grid — five rows and five columns instead of the original four. Slide every tile at once with the arrow keys, WASD or a swipe; when two equal numbers touch, they merge into their sum. A new tile (2 or 4) appears after each move.
The extra nine cells change the feel of the game completely: you can recover from bad positions, keep more merge options open, and chase tiles far beyond 2048. Winning runs typically end somewhere between 8192 and 32768.
Strategy for the bigger board
- The corner strategy still rules: lock your biggest tile in one corner and never let it drift.
- Use the fifth column as a "buffer lane" — park awkward small tiles there instead of breaking your chain.
- With more space you can maintain two descending chains; merge them only when one runs out of moves.
- Don't rush to merge: on a 5×5 board, keeping the board tidy beats grabbing every small merge.
FAQ
Is 2048 5x5 easier than normal 2048?
Yes, noticeably. A 5×5 board has 25 cells instead of 16, so you get far more room to organise tiles. Random new tiles hurt you less, and building long merge chains is simpler — most players reach 2048 on their first or second try.
What is the highest tile you can get on a 5×5 board?
Reaching 2048 is comfortable, 4096 is a normal target for an experienced player, and 8192 is achievable with careful corner strategy. With truly perfect play the theoretical maximum is much higher.
Are the rules different from classic 2048?
No. Same rules, same controls — arrow keys, WASD or swipe. Only the board size changes to 5 columns and 5 rows.
Does it work on my phone?
